Project Overview
The Route 44 Embankment Stabilization Projects include two separate projects, that when combined, will stabilize over 20 embankments along Route 44 between Torbert Lane in Watson Township and Waterville in Cummings Townships, Lycoming County.
Additional Project Information
The Partnership Project, SR44-103, is a $9.3 million embankment stabilization project administered by EQT Production and was funded through the Upgrade Partnership Program. PennDOT was awarded $4.65 million through discretionary funding and EQT Production Company is providing $4.7 million of private funding. The two-year project will stabilize 18 embankments between Route 973 and Waterville, mill and pave, install new guide rail, and line paint through out the project area.
The second, PennDOT project, along Route 44 is the SR44-86S, located south of Route 973 in Watson Township. This $11.8 million PennDOT project includes the stabilization of four embankments, paving, guide rail upgrade, and line painting. The district received funding for the project after applying for a PROTECTS grant, from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). The project began in the spring 2024 is anticipated to be completed in the fall 2025.
