This is a bridge replacement and resurfacing project on Route 54 in Derry and Valley townships. Work includes replacing the existing bridge over Stony Brook with a new concrete box culvert and minor roadway repairs near the bridge. Route 54 traffic will be maintained through the work zone by a two-lane temporary roadway and bridge. Traffic along Route 3010 (Steckermill Road) and T-384 (Hillside Road) will be temporarily detoured during construction. Hillside Road will be detoured using Hillside Road and Shed Road. Steckermill Road will be detoured using Steckermill Road, Route 3003 (Narehood Road), and Route 254.

This project includes the mill and resurface of 5.6 miles of Route 54 between Route 254 in Derry Township and Valley Road (Route 3008) in Valley Township and 0.6 mile of Route 54 between Valley Road and the Roadside Rest Area in Valley Township. Work includes milling and resurfacing the existing roadway, base repairs, and line painting. Traffic will be maintained using a single lane with flagging. 

Work began in the fall of 2024 and is anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2025. The construction cost for all projects combined is $5.4 million.

UPDATE: 4/22/2025

Stecker Mill Road

  • On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Stecker Mill Road (Route 3010) will be closed between Route 54 (Continental Boulevard) and Mowery Road for the duration of the bridge replacement.
  • A detour using Narehood Road (Route 3003), Broadway Road (Route 254),and Continental Boulevard (Route 54) will be in place. 

Route 54

  • The speed limit will be reduced to 45 miles-per-hour when traffic is switched to the temporary road.

UPDATE: March 2025:

Work on this project will resume Monday, March 10, 2025.

The contractor HRI, Inc., will begin construction of a temporary roadway at the intersection of Route 54 and Stecker Mill Road (Route 3010) in Derry Township. Work will be performed Mondays through Fridays between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, weather permitting.

On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Hillside Road will be closed for construction of the temporary roadway. A detour using Hillside Road and Shed Road will be in place.

Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway, slow down, and watch for slow or stopped vehicles.

HRI, Inc. is the prime contractor for this $5.4 million bridge replacement and roadway resurfacing project. Work includes the removal of the existing bridge over Stony Brook, replacement with a box culvert, and minor roadway repairs. Additional work includes the mill and resurface of 5.6 miles of Route 54 between Route 254 in Derry Township and Valley Road (Route 3008) in Valley Township and 0.6 mile of Route 54 between Valley Road and the Roadside Rest Area in Valley Township. Work on this project is anticipated to be completed in December 2025.
