The bridge carrying Glen Riddle Road over Chrome Run Creek is back open to travelers following the completion in late 2024 of a $1.2 million project to replace the 92-year-old structure in Middletown Township.
Work began in April 2024 to replace the bridge with wider lanes and shoulders to improve travel and safety for the estimated 4,415 motorists who use this bridge daily. Other improvements include new signing, pavement markings, drainage, and guiderail.
Richard E. Pierson Construction Co., Inc. of Woodstown, New Jersey, was the general contractor on the project, which was financed with 100 percent state funds.

Completion date: November 2024
Construction is progressing faster than anticipated on a project to improve approximately 1.3 miles of U.S. 1 in Bucks County by reconstructing and widening the pavement, replacing several bridges, and improving several interchanges in Bensalem and Middletown townships. Construction is expected to be completed in mid-2025, approximately one year ahead of the original contract completion date.
Construction of the new northbound U.S. 1 bridge over the Neshaminy Creek has been substantially completed and the new bridge is partially open to traffic while work continues into next spring to finish the connecting sections of roadway on both sides of the new structure in Bensalem and Middletown townships.
With new bridges in place over the Penndel/Business U.S. 1 Interchange and over Rockhill Drive at the Neshaminy exit, major structure work has been completed.
Remaining work through mid-2025 will focus on completing the roadway section of the contract, by widening U.S. 1 to three lanes in each direction between the new bridges. With excavation and drainage finished, a base course of paving is in place from the Neshaminy exit and the twin bridges across the Neshaminy Creek. Crews will work as weather permits to complete the remaining roadwork over the winter.
On Rockhill Drive under the new U.S. 1 bridge, work has shifted into the final stages of widening the eastbound roadway at the interchange.
The new northbound bridge over the Neshaminy Creek is being used as a temporary off-ramp to Penndel/Business U.S. 1 while northbound and southbound through traffic on U.S. 1 remains on the new southbound bridge during remaining roadway construction.
Section RC2 is the second of three contracts under PennDOT's U.S. 1 Improvement Program in Bucks County to widen U.S. 1, replace aging bridges, and complete various highway safety enhancements along a five-mile segment of the highway from Old Lincoln Highway to just north of the Corn Crib Lane overpass in Bensalem and Middletown townships and Langhorne Manor and Langhorne boroughs.
Section RC1, which was completed in late 2022, reconstructed and widened approximately one mile of U.S. 1 and replaced bridges over Street Road (Route 132), the Turnpike, and its ramps.
A third project, Section RC3, will improve U.S. 1 from the Penndel/Business U.S. 1 Interchange north through the Route 413 overpass. The project remains in Final Design and is not yet scheduled for construction.

County: Bucks
Completion date: Mid-2025
The early stages of construction continue on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) in Upper Chichester Township, to reconstruct, widen, and improve travel and safety on a 1.4-mile section of the highway.
This project will reconstruct and widen the two-lane section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) to four travel lanes, and upgrade traffic signals from just east of Chelsea Parkway/Bethel Avenue to just east of Route 452 (Market Street).
This improvement project also includes:
Motorists will encounter periodic weekday lane closures at several locations through early spring for utility work, site clearing, and temporary paving in preparation for the start of large-scale construction operations.
During the various stages of the anticipated five years of construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times on eastbound and westbound U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway).
This project is the second of four construction contracts under PennDOT’s U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) Improvement Program to improve travel and safety on a 6.7-mile section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) in Concord, Bethel, and Upper Chichester townships.
The first section to widen and improve U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) and the intersections between U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) and Clayton Park Drive in Concord Township, was completed in 2020.
Section CSX, which will replace the U.S. 322 bridge over the CSX Railroad and improve the adjacent Bethel Road Interchange, is scheduled to be advertised for construction later this year.
Final engineering design is advancing for the fourth section to reconstruct and widen U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) from Clayton Park Drive to Chelsea Parkway/Bethel Avenue in Upper Chichester and Bethel townships.
